On the Wednesday* morning, they all converge on the beach, carrying with them pots with seedlings and end the celebration with an offering to the sea. An adaptation of a harvest & rain festival, at this fishing community the prayer is for a better catch from the sea. .*The festival is always on a Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.<br />

  • Sri Lanka. Horton Plains National Park.  It lies at a height of more than 2,000 m in the central highlands This is a key wildlife area. Species found here include Leopard, Sambar and the endemic Purple-faced Langur. All highland endemic birds are found here, including Dull-blue Flycatcher, Sri Lanka White-eye, Sri Lanka Wood Pigeon, and Sri Lanka Bush Warbler. Yellow-eared Bulbul and Black-throated Munia are widespread throughout the highlands.The park also has a well-visited tourist attraction at World's End, a sheer precipice with a 1,050 m drop. The return walk passes the scenic Baker Falls.

  • Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village, 13 km (8.1 mi) northwest of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala is notable for having the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2011, there were 88 elephants, including 37 males and 51 females from 3 generations, living in Pinnawala.

  • This was the most wonderful shop for curd and honey (kithul treacle). In the old Galle market, this gentleman loved what he did. Hi ghee and jaggery were also excellnt.<br />
