Sri Lanka. Udappuwa festival. The village, men and women, gather at the Mariamman Kovil in the north of the village. Here they bathe at the well, fall into a deep trance, dance kavadi, & then move south to the main Vishnu Kovil, stopping at a small beach Kataragama shrine on the way...The trance is very strong, they often have to be restrained by family & friends, screaming as this is done.
