Perth 1958.
Me with my Australian “ Shiela “
( Australian slang for girl ).
All of us Burghers from Ceylon were new
To them and they were fascinated by us. Very few new migrants stayed on in Perth and it was a very Australian Society we Were joining.
Most migrants were heading for Sydney and Melbourne, because of the availability of jobs there.
So we were constantly being chased by the Girls there and found it daunting.
We were used to doing the chasing in Ceylon.
Once after Tennis at the local club, one beautiful girl came up to me and asked me to walk her home.
I got scared and said “ Sorry, but I have got to get back home urgently.” Shucks! All those missed chances!
