Kavadi

Woman accompanied by husband and son with her tounge pierced with a Vel or spear. Udappuwa festival. The Kavadi dancers walk south along the main street to the Vishnu Kovil. Many have hooks in their backs and are restrained by cords held by a friend...The women may carry pots of burning camphor...They will dance in the compound opposite the shrine. The priest at the temple will bring them out of their trance.
