Women's festival at Udappuwa. The first festival after the Sinhala Tamil New year, in the hot month of April or May. They dance in groups around a shrine at night and the next morning. On the Wednesday* morning, they all converge on the beach, carrying with them pots with seedlings and end the celebration with an offering to the sea. An adaptation of a harvest & rain festival, at this fishing community the prayer is for a better catch from the sea. .*The festival is always on a Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
