Sri Lanka. Udappuwa festival. Mariamman Kovil, Kavadi.

Udappuwa festival. The village, men and women, gather at the Mariamman Kovil in the north of the village. Here they bathe at the well, fall into a deep trance, dance kavadi, then they will move south to the main Vishnu Kovil, stopping at a Kataragama shrine on the way...The trance is very strong, they often have to be restrained by family & friends, screaming as this is done. 2005
