Sri Lanka. Gem Miners at work near Ratnapura.

Ratnapura is called the City of Gems. The centre of all gem mining in the country, the fields in the vicinity are spotted with mines, some large & deep, others small. These miners dig for stones at a small mine. The gravel is then washed in a basket hopefully leaving just precious stones behind.
